I started quilting about a year and a half ago, and these are pictures of the first quilt that I’ve completely finished, back in February. I have quite a few tops that I haven’t quite gotten around to the quilting step, but this one got completely done. My Mom turned 60 in February and I knew I wanted to do something really special for her. So kind of out of the blue I decided to make a quilt. I had dabbled a little in quilting on and off, but nothing to this degree. I actually have some really funny ’quilting attempt’ stories I’ll share someday. Anyway, so I went to a local quilt shop, picked a pattern, and took a couple lessons. The pattern is called “Days to Remember” in The Best of Black Mountain Quilts by Teri Christopherson. But I didn’t just want to do any quilt, I wanted to put my own spin on it and make it more meaningful. I decided to make the quilt extra special by picking exactly 60 different fabrics, and named it ‘60 Fabrics for 60 Years’. This is how it turned out. My Mom loves it and it’s hanging on her 2nd floor banister now. I have to say I’m pretty proud of it too. It was the start of what is now my quilting addiction.
