I wanted to share with you some pictures from a project I’m currently working on. It’s my first applique quilt. It’s called ‘Washington’s Cherry Wreath’, and it’s designed by Ann Weber. Check out her site at http://www.ginghamgirls.biz/. This is what their quilt looks like. http://mccallsquilting.com/special_pubs/507_washcherrywreath/. Mine will be similar, but I found some really GREAT fabrics for it, that makes me SUPER excited about this project. It’s a great thing when you find the perfect fabric for something you’re working on.
So there’s an old story about George Washington getting a brand new hatchet when he was 6 years old, and cutting down his father’s prized cherry tree with it. When asked by his father who did it, he confessed that “I cannot tell a lie, father, you know i cannot tell a lie! I did cut it with my little hatchet.” I actually had to look up the details about the story, because I hadn’t heard it in years, and only vaguely remembered something about Washington and a cherry tree. Now that I’m grown, the story seems kind of a silly little simple story to have become such a legend. But as kids, the moral is of course, to not lie. Anywho, that’s the theme of this quilt, and it’s just in time for our 4th of July celebration. So without further ado, here’s some pics of my progress so far, and the perfect fabric I found for it.
This fabric has the cherries, and the hatchets. Plus, the lyrics to “My County Tis of Thee” are in the background. How perfect! It’s from the 76 Trombones line for Mode by Sandy Gervais.
This is a large size toile that I’m using for the outside border. It’s got the signatures of the Declaration of Independence, and Washington’s portrait. This is in the Old Glory III line for Windham Fabrics by Nancy Gere.
This one has the Pledge of Allegiance on it.
Here’s the stacks of squares I’m working on…
Here’s the cherries and leaves I’m working on. I have all 60 cherries cut out, but you can see I still have quite a ways to go on the leaves.
So this is my current quilt in progress. I usually have lots of projects of different kinds going on, but I try to limit it to 1 or 2 quilts at a time. But I have lots of quilts ready to start as soon as this one is done. And I’ll post a finished picture whenever I get it through. Hopefully before 4th of July.
