Happy Friday the 13th!!!!!
On our last full day there, I got to see 3 more quilt shops, in the rain. The first was…
You can tell it was raining. But it was bright and colorful inside. This was a good sized shop that had lots of really great stuff and a really good variety. They had this great line Two Young Street by Prints Charming for Marcus Fabrics that I just ordered a bunch of to make a quilt. There’s one similar to it in the front window on the left, but you can’t see it very well. They had lots of holiday prints, movie prints, contemporary and more traditional quilt fabrics. The ladies working there were all super nice and helpful.
This is also a shop I would frequent if I lived there. I haven’t seen this much variety in a shop this size. The Quilt Box doesn’t count because it’s so huge. They really had something to match anything you could be looking for. Plus they have lots of classes, and go to shows, and are involved. They also had tons of fat quarters. This is what I ended up with, after much debate. These are for the polka dot quilt I mentioned before. Actually the pink isn’t polka dots, but it was so bright and looked so good with them I had to get. The 4 together may be an inspiration for a future quilt.
The next shop was St. Theresa Textile Trove. I was actually really looking forward to this shop because i had heard a lot about it. I had heard it was an off-the-wall quirky type shop, and it was just that. Not a shop I would go to again, but it was neat to see. And the raining is getting worse…
She had lots of stuff in this shop, and I wouldn’t really call it a quilt shop. There was a lot of fabric of all kinds. Lots of African prints, prints with skulls, dress and costume fabric, as well as some quilt fabric.
She also had tons of beads and buttons all over the store, especially along this wall.
There were a few things I would have liked to have got, but everything was well out of my price range. So to say I got something, I settled on this Wizard of Oz fat quarter, which I haven’t gotten around to pressing yet.
The last quilt shop of my trip was the Victorian Quilt Shop. We actually weren’t going to go to this one because it’s pretty far east of the city. But they had lots of outlet malls out there also, so we made the trek.
By this time it had quit raining, but the tornado sirens were going off. The shop itself was pretty unremarkable. After all the great shops i had seen, it was just so-so. They had a fair selection, and they did have lots of fat quarters, but it was just alright. Besides, I was the only person in the shop, and the 2 ladies that were working could not have cared less I was there. I think I maybe got a hi. Not one I would revisit. But, I did get to add these 30’s repros to may stash of the others. And we didn’t get hit by a tornado.
So on the quilt shop side of things, the trip started with a bang, and then kind of trailed off. But it was still great to see so many things that aren’t so easily available where I live. I do a lot of fabric shopping online now, and wouldn’t have to do that there. No shipping costs = more money for fabric.
It was a great vacation, and I can’t wait to go back!
Over the weekend I’m going to put up some pics of some projects I’ve been working on, plus some projects I’m about to start. Stay tuned, and have a great weekend!
