Well, the results for the fair are in. How much fun the whole thing was! My Mom and I both actually won something! The fair opened at 2 pm Friday, but we were so excited to check it out, we were standing outside the door at 1:45, with our faces pressed up against the glass trying to see in. My Mom’s quick wit and fast talking got us parked and through the back gate without having to pay for anything. It was a thing to behold. That poor ‘security’ guy at the fence didn’t stand a chance.
So without further ado, I give you…the results…
For my Mom…she entered 4 monkeys, and 3 of them won! She got a first and 2 seconds! Great job Mom!
Rainbow Brite won first place! But they covered up her fancy dress with all that stuff! Click this picture to see a better one. Or, you can see better pictures of all her monkeys here.
For me, none of my photos won anything. But my Christmas pillow got a second.
And yall. I just about fell over. My chin hit the floor. The quilt that I entered…it.won.everything. You could have knocked me over with a feather. It got first place in applique-wall size, Best of Show for all the wall sized quilts, and then Grand Best of Show over all the other quilts that were entered!- that’s over 66-ish quilts. I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t. We were jumping up and down squealing.
I’m honestly still waiting for the phone call to tell me they’re sorry, but they miscalculated the score sheets, or they accidentally put the ribbons on the wrong one, because I honestly don’t understand it. I really don’t. But I sure am tickled pink about it!
That’s mine in the bottom right. The mauve ribbon is Best of Show for whatever category they were in. The yellow is the Big Kahuna ribbon. But I just have to show you some of the other quilts there, because there were some really gorgeous ones. Lots of inspiration for the future. I was blown away by some of these.
I love the one right above mine, with all those lonestars. Those things are no joke…that was hard work for whoever made that one.
I love the house one in the bottom right. That’s some good ideas for the houses for the Around the World Quilt Swap.
I don’t know which quilts were in which categories, but I love all these also. The lonestar in the top is really impressive, I wish I could see more of it. There was a ‘vintage/antique’ category. Some of these look like they could possibly be in that.
They had a lot of really great quilts in the cases, but it was hard to get good pictures without a huge reflection. They had some really fantastic mini quilts. It’s inspired me to want to make one. I haven’t done that before, but they’re just so cute! Couldn’t get a photo.
So, we had a great first experience entering stuff at the fair. I guess that means I should stick to quilting instead of photography. 🙂 It also makes me consider not entering anything next year. Maybe quit while I’m ahead, ya know?
I’ve been putting off this post because it’s a little awkward for me. I actually really hate talking about my accomplishments, and would never want to come across as bragging. But I trust that yall will instead take this as just me sharing exciting news with my friends, via my blog.
Brag away girl – you did a fantastic job. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
CONGRATS!!! Your accomplishments are something to be proud of and you should trumpet a little. That was some stiff competition as all those quilts are wonders.
Brag all you want…you deserve to. Your quilt is beautiful…congratulations to you…and your mom too…love her sock monkeys!
Your quilt surely deserved the honor it received. It is gorgeous.

Okay…if your mom ever gets bored and makes another monkey with no one to give it to…tell her she is more than welcome to send one my way. It would have a cherished spot in my house!

Did you win anything other than just the ribbons? Our fair offers things like money and sewing machines to the winners of the big prizes. Check out the premium/entry book to see.
Way to go Lady Belle! Those are some cute monkeys.
FYI. I found a “group project” category that I am going to enter the Around the World QB quilt into when I finish it. I hope I can do justice to everybody’s hard work with my finishing & quilting.

……clapping….Congrads!!! And thanks for sharing all the other quilts too. At least a lot of the quilts were displayed
to where you could actually seen them. At our fair ALL of
the quilts are folded up and displayed behind glass…DARN IT!!!
I can see why your quilt won! It is lovely and the colours are just right. Somehow it was different to all of the rest. I do like the bottom left cream one in the following photo too. There were displayed very high up , glad I did not have to hang them all up! Go on, enter next year! When I lived in my last house we had a village fair to display veg, crafts etc and I won at my first attempt too. A bit embrassing since I had only just moved there but it also turned out to be a bit of an ice breaker as people came to talk to me about my quilt. Yes, I did win the following year too but in a different category, then the following year again, then I moved. They were probably glad to see the back of me!
xx
Congratulations to you both! Beautiful quilt. What an accomplishment. You’re a real inspiration – Looking forward to seeing next year’s entry all ready….
I love those monkeys! Your quilt is wonderful…congrats on all those ribbons! How fun was that!?
