I’m not one that likes to wish my life away, but I’d be lying if I said I I wasn’t at least a little glad to be done with August. Between expensive doctor bills, one car being totalled, the other being in the shop twice, frustrations and heartbreak at work, entertaining houseguests for a week, and my husband starting back to school full-time, it was an expensive, trying, busy, exhausting, and at times overwhelming, month. So I apologize for my long absense. I’ll try to catch everyone up on what’s new, and hopefully I won’t have such an extended absence again. Thanks to everyone who will continue to keep in touch. And I have so much catching up to do on all my favorite blogs too!
I do want to say that this is the only way I got through the month of August. Well, not this binder per say, but what it represents. This is my prayer journal, and the power of prayer was what carried me through the month. Lots of answered prayers, and the faith that many more carried over prayer requests will be answered.
As far as an update on Spike, nothing has changed. He’s still a chrysalis. He still looks healthy enough, I just don’t know why he hasn’t emerged yet. One website I looked at said that if they change into a chrysalis too late in the summer, they’ll wait until the next spring to come out. My Mom thinks that the air conditioning in my apartment fooled him into thinking it was too late into the summer. We’ll see what happens.
My husband and I have new reading lists now. This is part of his…
They’re for school, and don’t look like much fun. This is mine, and is much more fun…
I’ve finished the top one and it was good. I’m a big Mary Higgins Clark fan, and this book by a lady with a very similar name has a very similar type of writing. Suspense stuff. I’m in the middle of the second one. It’s really good. You might have heard of it. It’s the first in a series that just released the fourth book, so I’ll have several more to read. The movie is coming out in December. It’s kind of a cult hit thing. It’s actually intended to be geered for teenagers, but a bunch of girls I work with read them and loved them, and now I’m hooked. It’s about vampires, and I like vampire stuff. The last book is sort of a prequel to The Winter Rose which I loved! I couldn’t put it down. Completely different from the other two. It’s set in the early 1900’s England. One of the first female doctors falls in love with this gritty good-at-heart mobster. It’s so good. Not a sappy love story at all. It’s good.
I did manage to make it a couple of estate sales. I got a couple of old handquilted pieces…
I want to make a grandmother’s flower garden quilt at some point, so this is great inspiration. I also found this adorable quilted teddy bear. It’s in need of some repair and much tlc, but it was just sitting on the couch calling to me, so I had to take him home with me. Maybe I’ll name him Patch. There was also this red baby rocker, also in need of some repair, in another room of the house, and it’s the perfect size for Patch…I got two of the appliqued flower squares above, and they’re the same size as the seat of the rocker, so I think I’ll make a cushion out of it and give the rocker a new paint job. I’ll post a new picture once I got the rocker and cushion done. And give Patch a good cleaning and patch job. And a new ribbon…
I didn’t get much done in the way of my crafty projects in August. My husband had some family come and stay with us, and so we had to take down my sewing room, and put up a guest room. But, I did get a sewing table built. Buying one from Viking was over $100, and this one was made for about $35 and some elbow grease. I needed a flat surface of the machine arm to quilt on and this works great…
I think that about does it for today. I have a few more pics to use, but I don’t want to do overkill my first post back. Gotta save some for later. By the way, did I say that “The Winter Rose” by Jennifer Donnelly is an amazing book?
What a horrid time you have had! These things always come in groups don’t they. My colleague had a similar month with her family and needed several hospital visits with different members in different directions. I think you should stick to your pile of books unless you want to read about macroeconomics to put you to sleep. I have been looking for your message about the pincushions but as yet it has not surfaced. Was it the bug pincushion you wanted to know about? Email me instead
