I’ve been feeling a bit like a hamster in a wheel lately. Running and running, and never getting anywhere. I’m busy all day, but when the day is over, I can’t quite figure out what I’ve accomplished. I don’t like feeling this way, so hopefully I’ll snap out of it soon.
For the photos I entered at the fair, I ended up using the vegetables and the first lily picture. 100% of people voted for the veggies. I liked that one a lot, but for some reason, I liked the cars better. Especially after I got them both printed and mounted, I was still leaning towards the night shot, but took them both up with me. When I got to the table to drop them off, I asked the lady her opinion. She like the cars, but she squealed when she saw the veggies. I can’t argue with that. I can’t argue with 100% vote for veggies, and 0% for cars. Even the squirrel in the backyard tilted his head towards that one when I showed him both pictures. So veggies it is. Then I dropped my quilt off at the quilt table, and the ladies just oh’ed and ah’ed over it. I think they get the most flattering volunteers to man the tables. Give all the participants a little boost, so they’ll leave their stuff. Anyway, this lady told me she was running a quilt show in November and asked me to let her display it there too. So my very first fair has been a good experience so far. My Mom entered some of her sock monkeys, and they just swooned over them too.
In other news, I’m about finished with the Neptune top. But it’s a gift, so I can’t give the whole thing away. Just a peek. After Christmas, I’ll put the whole picture up.
And, I got all my Quilt for Melanie Wilkes swap blocks back. All 256 of them that now have to be sewn together. I have a feeling it’s going to be a big job. But I’m hoping to get them sewn together in the next couple of weeks and off to the long-armer. There’s no way I’ll be able to push this quilt through my machine. It’s going to be about 96″ square. I’m pleasantly surprised at all the variety of civil war repro fabrics I ended up with. It’s going to be truly scrappy. I thought I had seen about all there was to see when I was shopping for the fabric to use, but I hadn’t even scratched the surface.
Also, I desperately need to make a little quilted cover for my laptop. It sits on my sewing desk and gets covered in lint all the time. Have any of you made one before?
I saw your title and thought ‘gosh, I hope Small and Furry doesn’t mind Joanna feeling him’ :-O
Seriously you sound mega busy. In a good way. Congratulations on doing so well – of course we never doubted it – all your sewing is just so lovely.

Darling, you’re going to need 8 more 9-patches and 8 more squares — Melanie needs a total of 256 blocks! So start cuttin’ and stitchin’!!!
for the cover for your laptop take two kitchen towels. I bought package of 4 white w/red stripe on bottom edge from Ikea , they seemed thin so I sewed 2 wrong side together. On one set I sewed a stabilizer on 1 then did a stitchery to make this the top of the cover. – Ater you have two sets sewn together then sew 3 sides of this leaving on long side open. The laptop will slide in nicely. I also made a cover for my sewing machine using these towels by boxing the top corners. I hope this made some sense.

Congratulations on being invited to show your quilt at another location!
The quilting/crafting community is usually very nice about making positive comments on other people’s work. Besides, you do lovely work, so what do they have to complain about?
As for feeling like a hamster on a wheel, isn’t that just everyday? Or is it only me? Too much I want to do, and never enough time to do it all.
I have made a laptop cover. There is a tutorial on my blog. I used a magnetic fastening but you could use velcro, press-studs or a lovely big button and fabric loop. I have also made a new cover for my work diary and memos etc but I have not posted it yet. Hopefully this weekend.
